Background:
"Mercy is a lie. A delusion of the weak to make themselves strong."

Personality:
Maul has been honed from near birth to be a weapon of the Sith. From the day he was taken from his home on Dathomir by Darth Sidious, his entire life has been surrounded by nothing but passion and revenge.  Trained as a weapon, he immersed himself into the dark side of the force. Passion, strength, anger, hatred, fear, all were utilized as weapons to be wielded to strike down his enemies- the Jedi that had long ago destroyed the Sith and had cast him and his master into Shadow.

The need for revenge is what fuels Maul in all his doings.  It is what drove him to the hangars of Naboo, seeking revenge against the Jedi. It is what kept him alive for ten long years in the heaps of Lotho Minor, what little remained of his mind when he was driven mad by isolation and abandonment. And when he was gifted once again with clarity, it is what drove him to set fire across the galaxy, to slaughter innocents and bring war to a peaceful planet, all for revenge against the man who struck him down.

But that is not to say revenge is the only motivator in his life. Pride, coupled with a desperate need for his master's approval, fuel just as many of his goals and downfalls. He takes pride in the fact that he is a strong warrior, and it allows him to become overconfident and careless when he least needs it. It was pride that was his downfall when he fell to Obi-Wan's saber, and it is pride that keeps him from forming a proper connection with his brother, his apprentice, Savage. All the same, he finds himself humbled before his master, deferring to his wishes and even burning a fire across the galaxy to prove he is strong enough to rejoin him at his side.

Even for all his faults, Maul can prove himself to be a clever negotiator and politician, surprisingly practical when the moment calls for it. He is aggressive and precise when it comes to hostile takeovers, such as the swift deaths of the leaders of the Black Sun syndicate, but he knows when to wield a delicate hand and to hide behind the shadows of another, such as the election of Prime Minister Almec in order to publicly rule Mandalore in his stead. It is these moments, deep in the middle of political mire, that we can see him at his calmest. He carefully lays out strategies, picks the perfect pieces to knock over, and crushes his competition with ease and the right amount of applied pressure.

But in the end, his greatest enemy is himself alone.

For all of the strength his hatred and pride gives him, it can quickly become his greatest downfall. While he may be patient when playing a long game against those he considers minor enemies, the hatred and cycle of revenge that burns in him can cause him to lose focus and objectivity. He takes more risks, exposes himself more frequently, and makes more mistakes when he is filled with his emotions. Furthermore, his pride in himself and his abilities can cause him to become blindsided and be easily struck down, such as when he taunted Obi-Wan on Naboo- a mistake that ultimately lead to his fall from the grace of the Sith Order as well as the loss of his legs.

In the end, Maul is a powerful being who gains his strength from his emotions. But it is these very emotions that can make him falter and fall, dooming him just before he reaches any of his goals. 

Abilities:
Maul has many abilities granted to him through both his birth as a Dathomirian Nightbrother and as a Sith Lord. These include:
- Master of Juyo, Form VII, lightsaber style combat. Maul prefers this physical form over all others, using the ferocity of the style to completely and physically dominate his opponent.
- Heightened Stamina and Strength. Maul uses the force to augment his body, allowing him to perform devastating physical feats, as well as outlast most of his opponents.
- Force Telekinesis. Maul is able to manipulate the force in order to move things with his very will, whether this be a heavy object or a person by their throat.
- Force Sense. Maul is able to sense others through the force, as well as read a person's key negative emotions such as fear, hatred, and anger. 
- Mastermind. Maul is very experienced in the art of manipulation, as well as learning politics while under his master's tutelage. Furthermore, he has proven himself a brilliant military strategist, able to outplay even the best of opponents on a galactic scale. Of course, this brilliance is often undermined by his ambition, his overconfidence,  and his impatience.

Alignment:
Elios.
Maul has been raised according to the Sith code, letting his hatred fuel him and keeping him alive even when he was severed in half. Hatred is his key emotion.
